Jet is not a mineral but is rather a mineraloid. It is derived from wood that has changed under extreme pressure. Its colors range from black to dark brown but may contain pyrite inclusions. Since the Bronze Age Jet has been used for ornaments and jewelry. Jet was carried by sailors’ wives to keep their husbands safe at sea, a practice that dates back to Viking times. The Romans viewed jet as a magical gemstone that was often used in amulets to protect the wearer. It was believed this black stone could deflect the evil eye. 

Jet is said to be helpful for skin problems, bites, and stings, tooth pains, neuralgia, migraines especially those caused by stress, stomach pain, and colds.  It can be used to relieve all pains or swellings in the lower body, legs, and feet.
