Heliotrope, also known as bloodstone, is a cryptocrystalline mixture of quartz that occurs mostly as jasper or sometimes as chalcedony. The “classic” bloodstone is opaque green jasper with red inclusions of hematite. The stone color ranges from green to dark green with reddish embeddings. Heliotrope was called “stone of Babylon” by Albertus Magnus[1193-1280], he referred to several magical properties, which were attributed to it from Late Antiquity. He used the power of the stone to bring down fever.
